Singapore is located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia, composed of a highly urbanized grouping of over sixty different islands. Having changed hands between many different empires over the course of history, Singapore holidays serve as a nexus of various cultures. The nation has been a sovereign entity since 1965.
Singapore is actually one of the busiest port cities in the entire world, cementing the global feel. With many stopovers and cheap flights to Singapore available, it is no wonder it is becoming one of the most travelled to destinations in the world. The national currency is the Singapore Dollar, often abbreviated to SGD. Singapore also has four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil.
The culture of Singapore reflects the country’s status as a global melting pot. Local cuisine combines Chinese, Malay, Indian, and a wealth of other influences in an array of culinary offerings. A culinary experience, whether in a restaurant, at a street vendor, or through purchased food is simply unforgettable. Art, architecture, sports, and media also serve as multicultural platforms, providing experiences utterly Singaporean. For example, the Esplanade, a performing arts center, is designed and utilized with a harmony between East and West.
Geographically, Singapore lacks distinct seasons but maintains a tropical rainforest climate due to it’s possession just one degree North of the equator. Singapore’s juxtaposition as a mecca of urban planning in the midst of an equatorial geographic region only adds to the country’s charm.
Singapore is, ultimately, a destination catering to many different people. The urban sprawl creates easy networking for businesspeople, while the internationally famous cultural attractions offer something for nearly everyone.
